Choosing Life: A Woman’s Choice Endures for Centuries

For You From The Word

She has done a beautiful thing to me …She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burial.(Mark 14:6, 8, ESV)

For You To Think About

A woman’s choice leaves a legacy.

Case in point: Jesus returned to Bethany each evening during Holy Week, staying with friends. One evening, a woman approached Him with a full jar of expensive perfume, broke it, and poured it over Jesus. Others present were frustrated by this display of emotion and seeming waste of resources.

Yet Jesus saw it differently. “She has done what she could,” He said. “She has done a beautiful thing to me” (Mark 14:6, 8). Translated literally His words mean, “what she was able to do, she did.”

A woman could not accompany Jesus to the temple to preach and teach to others. She likely had other responsibilities at home and moreover, Jewish law prevented her. The woman was unable to prevent Jesus’ capture, trial, and execution, for the Jewish leaders orchestrated that beyond the scope of her knowledge.

Yet what she was able to do, she did: the woman made a choice to honor Jesus.

Likewise, today when a woman faces an unplanned pregnancy she may feel limited in her choices.  But  when she chooses life, she shows honor to Jesus. To Him, that choice is beautiful.

It’s a choice that endures for centuries in the legacy of the life she brings into the world.

For You To Pray

Heavenly Father,
You are honored when we make choices that are pleasing to You. I pray you lead women and men who face an unplanned pregnancy to choose life and leave a legacy that endures beyond themselves.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
