For You To Think About
“Abortion does not compute with my philosophy,” says actress Kate Mulgrew (b. 1955), most famous for her role as Captain Kathryn Janeway in the television science fiction series Star Trek: Voyager.
She has lived out that belief. Mulgrew became pregnant in the 1970s when starring in the television soap Ryan’s Hope.
Her pregnancy was written into the story line. In 1977, Mulgrew gave birth, placed her daughter for adoption, and left the show soon afterwards. She went on to have a productive acting career, later married, and had two sons.
“Women often don’t believe that they can survive nine months of pregnancy and place the child with an adoptive family,” says Mulgrew. But she did – and she believes it possible for others to do the same.
In 2001, Mulgrew was reunited with her birth daughter. “Life is sacred to me on all levels,” she says.
For You To Pray
Strong and Mighty Father,
Give birth moms the courage to consider the adoption option.
In Jesus name, Amen.
